Dr. Kacie Wells Dr. Wells is a Santa Cruz native. She grew up competing in hunter/jumper
shows across California. She graduated with honors from UC Santa Cruz with a bachelors degree in biology. After college, Dr.
Wells enjoyed a few years living in San Francisco before attending veterinary school. She graduated from UC Davis School of
Veterinary Medicine with an emphasis in equine surgery and medicine. After veterinary school, Dr. Wells worked at Steinbeck
Country Equine Clinic in Salinas, CA. There, under the guidance of Dr. Tim Eastman, she sharpend her skills in equine
surgery and lameness diagnostics and treatment. Dr. Wells Started "Edgewater Equine Clinic" in July 2007. She
is now available for general health care, lameness diagnostics and treatment, pre-purchase exams, reproductive services, vaccinations,
dentistry and emergencies. Dr. Wells enjoys riding her Swedish Warmblood "Ali" and her rescue thoroughbred
"Kaiser" and traveling to exotic countries. Recently Dr. Wells spent 2 weeks in Australia with her boyfriend, Dr.
Aaron Hodder, helping him with reproductive work on several thoroughbred breeding farms. Dr. Wells provides a complete
mobile practice to service horses in Santa Cruz and surrounding counties. She is now available for appointments Monday-Saturday
and emergency call 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Kerrin Murphy, Veterinary Assistant Kerrin grew up with horses with her family in England and in Mexico where she lived as a child. She came back to the US
for High School and went to UCSC where she got a B.A. in Psychology with a Biological emphasis (Psychobiology-- the study
of the relationship between Biology and Behavior). She then got her M.A. in Bilingual Education at UCSC and was a teacher
for 10 years, where her specialty and passion was Science instruction to the 4th and 5th graders she taught. A Santa Cruz resident for 20 years, she eventually decided
to return to her passion, Veterinary Science and Animal Health, and got her Certificate in Veterinary Assisting at Foothill
College. She is now half way through her studies to become a Registered Veterinary Technician. She has worked with both small
and large animal Veterinarians in the area over the past 3 years but her main interest is in Lameness, Farriery, and preventative
hoof care. Kerrin has attended several hands on workshops in shoeing and trimming and has a full complement of Farrier equipment. Kerrin and her husband have 5 rescued animals;
A Pitbull, "Pogonip", a Golden Retriever, "Annie" and a Border Collie/ Cattle Dog mix, "Bongo the
Monkey". She and her husband also have two Thoroughbreds, rescued from the track, named "River Pageant" and
"Parkview II". One big happy family!
